Dear Puget Sound Community,
On March 29, the Derek Chauvin trial commenced, and now we write to you as the nation braces itself for the verdict. Understandably, the outcome of this trial will evoke many emotions, and our nation will continue to process the various implications of the verdict.
The University of Puget Sound is prepared to be responsive to the needs of members of our campus community as we process the outcome of this trial. Below is a list of resources that will be available to members of our community.
- Kilworth Memorial Chapel will be open to members of the campus community for individual reflection, contemplation, and prayer from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. In addition, short, spiritually inclusive vigils will be held at noon and 8 p.m. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, a maximum of 50 people may be in Kilworth at a time.
- “The Dean Is In,” in-person connections with the Dean of Students staff, will be held in WSC Marshall Hall.

- Residence Life will hold community meetings in our first-year areas this weekend and in continuing areas next weekend. These meetings will offer space for ongoing dialogue and reflection as needed.
Please also know that Counseling, Health, and Wellness Services offers same- and next-day appointments that students can schedule every weekday. Resources are also available for faculty and staff members through our Employee Assistance Program and all from University Chaplain Dave Wright, dwright@pugetsound.edu.
