PRIVACY: IS "GOING OFF THE GRID" THE ONLY SOLUTION?

In modern society where collection and distribution of data is the norm, thinking about how we are all tracked can be an unpleasant reality. Though it is an overwhelming topic that we may want to be blissfully ignorant about, it is an important conversation nonetheless. As consumers, how do we balance privacy versus convenience? The discussion will be focused on privacy in our personal lives. We will discuss the status quo and offer some practical guidance.

Dates Offered:
Monday, October 19, at 1 - 2 p.m.
Friday, October 30, at 3 - 4 p.m.

Test Your Cyber Smarts

Anonymously take a quick quiz to see how you do with some hypothetical scenarios! When you are done, don't forget to submit your answers to get feedback and learn more about the topics covered.

You can take the quiz anytime throughout October in Google Forms: https://forms.gle/e3LRrgb4CLHtT3EE9.

Simulated Phishing Exercises

Phishing is one of the most prevalent attack vectors for the university and requires vigilance from every campus member in order to protect the university. To give campus members a hands-on opportunity to practice how to spot, recognize, and respond to phishing, Technology Services will be sending simulated phishing emails throughout the month of October. These emails will be crafted to look like real phishing emails and may contain benign links.

You can treat these emails as you would any other phishing email. Check the sending email address and hover over any links. Do not give out personal information via email and never submit passwords over web forms.

In general, if you are not sure whether an email is phishing, ask the Service Desk! If you know it is phishing, you can report it to the Service Desk by forwarding it as an attachment. Reporting a phishing email allows us to investigate the email and take steps to mitigate any harm if it was sent to multiple individuals.
