About Kittredge Gallery
Through gallery exhibitions and artist lectures focused on expanding students exposure to core issues in contemporary art, Kittredge Gallery serves as a teaching tool for the Puget Sound Art & Art History Department and supports the liberal arts curriculum of the university as a whole. With its history of strong exhibitions by regional and nationally recognized artists, Kittredge Gallery also contributes to the broader cultural community of the Pacific Northwest.

See the best work from art classes in the last year. The opening night party and awards (with prizes) on Monday, Jan. 22rd, is the first view of the show. The Art Students Annual show is a Puget Sound tradition. Students enter work from art classes, and a juror selects artwork for the show, which will be in Kittredge Gallery for five weeks.

Wendy Cabrera Rubio holds an undergraduate degree from the Escuela Nacional de Pintura,
Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City. She is also an alum of the SOMA Program
in Mexico City. Wendy Cabrera Rubio’s textile and performance art crosses boundaries—between
high and low culture, image and object, narration and action. Her work examines mass culture’s
production and distribution of images, especially by animation and caricature. Through a process
that includes interdisciplinary collaborations and rewriting the archive, Cabrera explores the
resurgence of the extreme right alongside the rise of biotechnology and the Pan-American project.

Puget Sound Museum of Natural History Education and Outreach Director Madison Mayfield will give a twenty minute talk about museum specimens and art in museum spaces as a way to give more context to the show and some history/background about museum collections and their tie to science art. Then, we will transition to drawing from still life specimens from the Natural History Museum's collection.
The Puget Sound Museum of Natural History is one of the Pacific Northwest's significant natural history collections, with over 100,000 bird, mammal, reptile, amphibian, plant, insect, and geological specimens located on the University of Puget Sound campus. These specimens serve as an invaluable resource to science & conservation, but to ensure their protection and longevity, they are often stored away in collections cabinets behind closed doors. In an attempt to bring collections to the public, the Puget Sound Museum has worked to give artists access to these specimens in the hopes that the specimen stories can be told through art. The Hidden Specimen features the work of over a dozen local artists and UPS students who were inspired by the Puget Sound Museum collections to create specimen-based works of art and, in turn, provide broader access to our research collections through visuals.

In the Flow: Art, Ecology, and Pedagogy embodies and demonstrates place-based and land-based ways of knowing through art, artifacts, and interactive projects by artists, educators, and students from the Cascadia region. It serves as the nexus for the Flow: Art and Ecology in a Changing Climate symposium.
