Albert Shepard lives in a small beach house on San Juan Island in Washington State. He has a broad range of interests and skills that are prerequisite to being an islander. His love of natural science and art first led him to The Whale Museum in 1982. Over time he has been an academic intern from The Evergreen State College, naturalist guide, and educational program coordinator. He served as The Whale Museum’s Curator from 1995 to 2005, a position that paid exceptionally well in experience. “I like the title of my position – Curator. I’ve been told it means to cure or preserve; I like to also think the title might also relate to curiosity. Maybe my job is to preserve curiosity.”
His broad range of curatorial experience includes exhibit design and fabrication, project management, specimen preparation, education program design and implementation, and product development. Recent exhibit projects include University of Puget Sound, Washington State Parks, The Whale Museum, Sea Doc Society / University of California Davis, University of Washington Friday Harbor Labs / San Juan Island Historical Museum. Aside from museum work Albert likes to travel, be outside and play with dogs.
