TACOMA, Wash. – University of Puget Sound has once again been named among the colleges and universities that produce the most Fulbright U.S. Students. Each year, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces the top producing institutions for the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program. The 2022–23 list is published in the current issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
“Puget Sound students and alumni continue to put their education into practice as researchers and educators,” said Puget Sound President Isiaah Crawford. “The highly competitive Fulbright program provides Loggers with the opportunity to gain valuable international experience and a global perspective of our dynamic and changing world.”
Past Logger Fulbright recipients have served as researchers and teachers in Argentina, Germany, Taiwan, and Zambia. Other highly selective fellowships, grants, and awards received by Puget Sound students and alumni include the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, the Watson Fellowship, the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship, the Boren Fellowship, the Rhodes Scholarship, the Critical Language Scholarship, the El Pomar Fellowship, and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, among others. In addition, Puget Sound is one of the top 10 small colleges that produce Peace Corps volunteers each year. Whether in Tacoma or around the world, Loggers are serving their communities and providing leadership on the most challenging issues of our time.
Established to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, the Fulbright Program is the world’s largest and most diverse international educational exchange program. Since its inception in 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 participants from all backgrounds—recent university graduates, teachers, scientists and researchers, artists, and more—the opportunity to expand their world views, exchange ideas, develop a deep appreciation for their host countries and people, and build new networks of colleagues and friends.
Fulbright alumni work to make a positive impact on the world and have included 41 heads of state or government, 62 Nobel Laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, 78 MacArthur Fellows, and countless leaders and change-makers who embody the Fulbright mission.
