Information for New Faculty Members
At your earliest convenience:
- Sign your appointment letter and return it to the Office of the Provost
- Complete your faculty new hire paperwork via DocuSign
- Upon email receipt of Puget Sound account set-up from Technology Services, log into email.
- Enroll in the Flexible Benefits Plan as soon as possible and no later than the last day of the month in which your appointment begins; benefits eligibility typically begins July 1 for most faculty appointments or January 1 for mid-year appointments
- Review and follow the instructions on the Flexible Benefits Plan web page.
When you arrive on campus:
- Plan to visit Human Resources to complete additional employment/payroll forms and obtain a new faculty packet
- Form I-9 (Section I)
- Get your Identification Card
- For information about on-campus parking, visit Security Services.
- Review when and how to File a Discrimination or Harassment Report.
- Review information about campus emergency notifications and receiving Security Alert messages.
During your first month:
- Submit your Moving Expense Reimbursement Form and receipts (if applicable) to the Provost's Office, Jones Hall, room 111
- Read Campus Policies
- Privacy & Appropriate Use of Resources Policy
- Take the FERPA Tutorial (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act)
- Take the Harassment and Sexual Violence Prevention and Data Security and Privacy Tutorials
- Sign up for Retirement Savings Benefits (if interested)
Information for New Staff Members
Before your first day on campus:

- Plan to visit Human Resources on your first day on campus
- Download a Campus Map
- Enroll in the Flexible Benefits Plan as soon as possible and no later than the last day of the month in which your appointment begins
- Review and follow the instructions on the Flexible Benefits Plan website.
- Fill out Forms
- Form I-9 (Section I)
During your first week:
- Bring completed forms to HR on your first day on campus.
- Get your Identification Card.
- Get your Parking Permit in Security Services.
- Log in to your Puget Sound email account.
- For assistance, contact the Technology Service Desk.
- Take the Harassment and Sexual Violent Prevention tutorial and Data Security and Privacy Tutorial.
- Learn about the university
During your first month:
- Attend New Staff Orientation
- Read Campus Policies
- Take the FERPA Tutorial (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act)
- Sign up for Retirement Savings Benefits (if interested)
- Complete your first-month survey online when you receive the invitation from Human Resources/Institutional Research.
