The Youth Summit has been a part of the Race and Pedagogy Institute (RPI) since 2010. It debuted as a part of the 2010 Race and Pedagogy National Conference (RPNC). The second Youth Summit occurred in 2012. In 2014 the Summit once again became a collaboration with RPNC. The Summit serves as space for high school students to engage with the extensive topics of the Race & Pedagogy National Conference in an exciting and engaging space that inspires students to think critically about race. The Youth Summit Planning Committee comprises local area high school students, college students, and community members. The youth summit is designed for and by students to provide experiential learning.
School districts and youth organizations from around Puget Sound bus in more than 500 students, mostly high school students, to the University of Puget Sound to engage in the Race & Pedagogy National Conference's Youth Summit. The summit features speakers, video, reflective conversation and writing, performances, poetry, art, and music activities.
