The Race & Pedagogy Journal provides a forum to cultivate a critical discussion around teaching and race issues to mitigate the effects of discrimination and structural racism and thereby improve education for all students. R&PJ is managed and edited by the University of Puget Sound under the Race and Pedagogy Institute's auspices.
About
The journal was established in 2015 and has published two issues a year. The editorial board seeks diverse content in voice and content, including scholarly articles, creative writing, personal narratives, and artwork by faculty members, student scholars, practitioners, and the general public. From 2015-2022, the journal has published 19 issues. At the end of 2022, the journal had seen more than 70,000 downloads from all over the world. All journal volumes are available on the library's archive database, Sound Ideas.
Aim and Scope of the Journal
The Race & Pedagogy Journal supports the work of the Race and Pedagogy Institute at the University of Puget Sound and aims to:
- Promote exemplary diversity models through scholarship, teaching and engagement across constituencies, and efficacious, innovative action.
- Weave together scholarship and action in order to reduce racism and improve pedagogical practices at all educational levels.
- Build alliances among universities, schools, and communities.
- Increase awareness of individuals as teachers and learners to recognize and address personal and structural racism.
