Mindful Communication

WHEN Wednesday, April 10th, from 1-3pm
WHERE Trimble Forum
WHAT

In the Mindful Communication workshop, we'll focus on fostering a healthier work environment. By improving communication, we can decrease stress and build a foundation for a safe, supportive, and nourishing workplace.

We communicate all day long. Communication is essential at work, at home, and everywhere in between. And yet we have little training in how communication works. No wonder we so often feel confused, frustrated, misunderstood.

Mindful Communication helps us break down this complex process, increase awareness of what's really going on, and bring greater clarity and kindness to our interactions.

Using tools of mindfulness and personal reflection, we'll investigate underlying challenges and issues that hinder good communication. We'll also engage in practices that can cultivate greater clarity and foster more kindness in our interactions.

NOTE: Digital information from this session will be available for those who cannot attend. We acknowledge that this event occurs during Eid al-Fitr and wish any Muslim staff/faculty members a joyous Ramadan and hope for a blessed Eid.

Rewirement

WHEN Tuesday, April 16th, from 3-5pm
WHERE Murray Board Room
WHAT

There are so many ways life over 50 has been characterized recently. As the Baby Boomer Generation is taking over this space, the cultural norms of what "retirement" looks like have changed. We have been encouraged to plan for our finances for many years, and there is more and more science and literature about how to plan for ALL the other dimensions of life in that "third act, next chapter, middlescence".

Paula Fitzgerald Boos has been studying, teaching, and coaching in this space for many years, and walking alongside people choosing change for 30+ years. From that she has designed a framework for considering the essential elements to plan for as you design your life in your next phase. She will cover some of the research and thought leadership from each of the elements. You will walk away with:

  • Questions to be asking yourself as you consider retirement
  • The latest information about planning for how to make the most of your health span and life span
  • Resources and suggestions about the best and most current books on the topic of retirement
  • Stories and examples of different choices
  • Ideas about how to make good decisions for yourself and your loved ones

This session will be part facilitated conversation and part mini-networking reception with group discussions led by recent Puget Sound retirees. Appetizers and refreshments will be served.

This event is co-sponsored by the Faculty Development Center and Human Resources.
