Trimble Junior/Senior Scholarship

Trimble Junior/Senior Scholarships are given to five rising juniors (i.e., current sophomores) declared Asian Studies minors or majors in Chinese or Japanese. Students receive $6,000 per year for their junior and senior years and are chosen based on merit and financial need. No application is required, but interested sophomores are encouraged to declare a minor in Asian Studies or a major in either Chinese or Japanese by April of their sophomore year to ensure consideration.

Trimble Study Abroad Scholarship

Students studying abroad in Asia on Puget Sound-approved programs are eligible to receive a Trimble Study Abroad Scholarship. Each Spring, the Office of International Programs provides a list of Puget Sound students planning to study abroad in Asia in the summer or following year. Students are then selected according to both merit and financial need to receive scholarships that normally range from $1000 to $3000. Trimble Study Abroad Scholarships are available to all Puget Sound students. Still, preference will normally be given to students with an Asian Studies minor or a major or minor in Chinese or Japanese.

Suzanne Wilson Barnett Writing Award

The Suzanne Wilson Barnett Writing Award is given each year for an outstanding paper written in an Asian Studies course at Puget Sound. Professor Barnett taught in the Asian Studies Program and History Department for 34 years from 1974 to 2007. She was instrumental in establishing and developing the program and served as Director of the Asian Studies Program for many years. This $250 award is available to all students with an Asian Studies minor or a major or minor in Chinese or Japanese (first-year students do not need to have declared a minor or major yet to be eligible). Any paper of any length written for any Asian Studies course (including Asia-related first-year seminar courses) is eligible for the Barnett Award, as long as the course for which the paper was written took place in the current academic year (including summer session). Students interested in this award should complete an online submission form by 1 p.m. on the Monday of spring semester finals week. As part of the online submission, students must upload a copy of their paper.

Raj Kumari Kukreja Scholarship

Students planning to study abroad, conduct research, or pursue language instruction in India are eligible for a $500 Raj Kumari Kukreja Scholarship. This scholarship is made possible by an anonymous gift to support student study of Indian culture and is available to all Puget Sound students, regardless of major or minor. Students wishing to be considered for the scholarship should contact the Asian Studies Director at asianstudies@pugetsound.edu to express their interest.

India Research Scholarship

The India Research and Scholarship Fund provides up to $1500 awards to students conducting research projects in India. Under certain circumstances, students studying abroad in India may also be eligible for this scholarship. Students wishing to be considered for the scholarship should contact the Asian Studies Director at asianstudies@pugetsound.edu to express their interest.
