Topics

We are constantly seeking speakers on all science and mathematics-related topics. The talks should be targeted at upper-level undergraduate students of the sciences and mathematics. Generally, they should be research-focused, present research-based data, and place these data in a larger context to facilitate appreciation for the information to the non-specialist audience.

Facilities

Thompson 175 has seating for 90. It has ample chalkboards and a digital projection system. You may connect your laptop to this system or use the room's computer (currently a dual-boot Mac / Windows system). In the latter case, speakers typically plug in a USB flash drive holding their display material.

Typical attendance is between 30-40 people. Students can sign up for activity credit for regular seminar attendance (BIOL 398).

Scheduling

We invite speakers from on campus and off campus and are always delighted to hear from volunteers who might be interested in presenting. If you are interested in giving a presentation, or know someone who might be interested, please contact Eleanor Bigelow. Currently our budget is limited to refreshments for seminar participants (and speakers!). Unfortunately, we cannot on a regular basis offer honoraria or long distance travel reimbursement, but we will try to help out with defraying some travel costs if possible.
