The Application Process

We accept applications for our two Practicum Positions from January 1 through March 1st for the upcoming 2020-21 academic year. After you submit your application, you will get an email confirming that we received your application. You will receive another email letting you know if you have been selected for an on-site interview. We typically conduct interviews from late February - early March. A few weeks after the interview, we will convey whether we will offer you the Practicum position with us at CHWS. The status of our positions (whether they are open or filled) is indicated on the Practicum Counselor Training page.

To Apply

Please submit your application via email to Dr. Potts (they|them|theirs) at epotts@pugetsound.edu. You may also mail it to the address below or fax your application to 253.879.3766. However, email is the preferred method of applying.

There are three pieces to the application: your personal information, the essays, and your Curriculum Vitae.

Essays

Please include your responses (roughly ½ page each) to the following questions:

1. Why are you interested in a Practicum Counselor position with CHWS? Please explain both in terms of educational requirements you wish to fulfill and your professional interest in this setting, population, or training program.

2. What educational experiences do you believe prepare you for doing psychotherapy with college students?

3. With which therapeutic issues (e.g., eating disorders, abuse survivors, depression, sexual orientation, anxiety, substance abuse, cultural or religious identity, grief, self-mutilation, etc.) would you feel most comfortable helping someone with at this point? With which would you feel least prepared or comfortable at this time? (We do not expect Prac Counselors to be experienced psychotherapists, we’re simply interested in your self-assessment and interests.)

4. Please describe your current training needs as a developing counselor. What, specifically, do you hope to learn in supervision? What are you looking for in a supervisor?

Curriculum Vitae

Please attach your curriculum vitae with your application.
