Kimberly Kvaal, Ed.D., currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at the University of Puget Sound, a highly ranked national liberal arts institution. Dr. Kvaal previously served as the Vice President for Finance & Administration at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and as Associate Vice President for Accounting and Business Services at the University of San Francisco. In her current position at Puget Sound, she has a broad portfolio of responsibility including managing a $110M annual operating budget, a $400M endowment, a $68M debt portfolio, in addition to overseeing all aspects of the finance and business functions of the university. As a senior member of the president’s cabinet, Dr. Kvaal leads strategic initiatives across the university including academic portfolio and administrative services prioritization, new revenue opportunities, and strategic financing.

Dr. Kvaal is an outstanding financial manager with a national reputation for her knowledge of academic business models. She receives many requests to present at national organizations such as the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the Association of Governing Boards. In 2016, NACUBO presented Dr. Kvaal with the Daniel D. Robinson Award for outstanding contributions to the field of college and university accounting and reporting. Dr. Kvaal served as a part-time faculty member at the University of San Francisco and at St. Edward’s University.

Dr. Kvaal holds a B.A. from the University of Colorado, Boulder, an M.B.A. from Regis University, and an Ed.D. in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California. Her areas of research focus on increasing organizational capacity for financial sustainability at colleges and universities.
