Overview of Puget Sound's Network

Network connectivity is available in all buildings across campus. Campus members should use the main PS-CampusAccess wireless network. Follow instructions below to setup your computer to work on the PS-CampusAccess network.

The PS-GuestAccess is specifically designed for campus visitors to browse the internet only, and will not allow access to Puget Sound databases, learning tools/resources, and servers.

Understanding SafeConnect

SafeConnect is a tool used to protect our network and identify personal computing devices on the campus network. The SafeConnect Policy Key must be installed on both Windows and Mac computers before the device can successfully connect to the main campus network. Once installed, SafeConnect will verify that the device passes network requirements before allowing normal web browsing.

Instructions for Connecting to the Campus Network

  1. Download the Safe Connect installer file per your operating system. Complete the installation for: WINDOWS INSTALLER or WINDOWS MSI INSTALLER or MAC INSTALLER.
  2. When prompted to enter your username and password, use your Puget Sound credentials. **Make sure your password is current and does not need to be reset.**
  3. Safe Connect will validate that your computer meets the requirements.
    • Your device has to have anti-virus software installed and running
    • Automatic operating system updates enabled
    • No illegal peer to peer file sharing
  4. If your device meets all of the network requirement you will receive a message "You are connected!" upon successful completion. If the message does not appear, check by going to safeconnect.pugetsound.edu in a browser. If the device fails to meet network requirements, follow the on-screen instructions or contact the Service Desk at 253-879-8585 for support.
  5. If your system has met requirements you will be able to access external websites such as YouTube. Test to see if your computer has passed network policy key registration by closing and opening a new browser window to confirm that you can reach an external website.

The Safe Connect client does not filter, log, or monitor Internet content in any way. It is a tool used to secure Puget Sound's network and registers your computer onto the campus network using your current Puget Sound credentials.
